Partnerships

ARTlife partnerships work on several levels, from consortium membership to joint projects in the district, with arts and non-arts agencies.

Along with the other Somerset local authorities, we regularly fund four Key Strategic Organisations, who deliver work across the county and who specialise in particular art forms or areas of arts work. As well as supporting their core work, we also offer the chance to develop new projects in West Somerset and to create partnerships across the district.

Key Strategic Organisations supported by ARTlife

Somerset Film & Video is a publicly funded body set up to promote moving image and multi-media production and training in Somerset. The project encourages and facilitates a wide range of media production from 'grass-roots' to commissioned broadcast. It also provides an extensive means of networking both amateur and professional practitioners throughout the region through its comprehensive on-line network. The opening of the Engine Room in Bridgwater has provided a permanent base for learning about and developing moving image work in the county.

Take Art is Somerset's Rural Arts Development Agency. Since 1987, many village halls and rural venues in West Somerset have been taking part in their Village Performance Scheme. The scheme exists to bring top quality touring professional arts events to rural communities at an affordable rate. By working together, memorable social events can be organised in areas where people live and meet and so provide a way for communities to come together socially.
Alongside the Village Performance Scheme, Take Art also initiates an artist-in-residence programme, runs Dance Somerset and the Theatre Locality Plan for Somerset.
